When we were trying to come up with an interesting premise for our first game we had a few things in mind:
We're pretty keen on animals here at Jadoku too (see Pat our intern developer) so an animal theme was always something we wanted to incorporate into the game. Snakes were already claimed by a little-known entrant in the genre so we looked for something a little more interesting - maybe something that could jump, likes grassy environments and is extremely cute!
After much deliberation frogs were chosen as our protagonists! Let's face it, who doesn't love frogs, they're adorable. The header image is a personal froggy friend I met on my travels a couple of years back. CUTE.
With a theme and species decided it was time to get drawing. It turns out frogs are kinda hard to draw (who knew?) and even harder to animate. With very little experience in the field of animating frogs I had to spend a lot of time figuring out how they ever manage to keep their legs under control. What followed were countless (very) dodgy prototypes and many hours of painstaking photoshop puppetry before I finally managed to produce a fully animated version of our first frog, who would eventually become our mascot Fribit! Here he is (on the left) in all of his beautiful froggy glory:
We are hoping to use our little game to make everyone fall in love with frogs, with that in mind some of our current and upcoming special frogs are going to be based on real-life species that we think should be getting a little more press. For example, our frog 'Frungi' (on the left) is based on one of the rarer breeds of Harlequin frogs. Although these little critters are beautiful, they are currently listed as endangered. So not only are we helping spread the love for frogs, but we're also helping to spread the word for endangered species.
Here's a video of our lead developer, Donny, playing as Frungi:
We made Frogar.io because we love animals. After making the game and learning everything that we have learned about frogs in particular though, we have seriously fallen in love with these little guys!
Do you love frogs and animals too? We would love it if you could try out the game and let us know what you think. Also make sure to like and share this with your friends so that they don't miss out on the froggy goodness!
Frogar.io is a fun, casual & competitive online game that you can play in your web browser and on your mobile. Play with thousands of players from all over the world, all competing to be the biggest and baddest frog in the bog!
